Frequently Asked Questions

How does Paladin block content across all apps?
Paladin uses Apple's Network Extension framework (NEFilterDataProvider) to filter content at the system level. This means it works across every browser and app on your iPhone — not just Safari. It's the same technology enterprises use for device management, built into iOS itself.
Does Paladin use a VPN?
No. Paladin uses Apple's built-in content filtering, which is separate from VPN. Your battery life and connection speed are unaffected, and it won't conflict with any VPN you already use.
Can I still access blocked sites if I really need to?
That depends on the commitment level you choose. On Standard, there's a cooldown timer before you can disable filtering. On Extreme and Nuclear, you'll need to complete additional challenges — and on Nuclear, your accountability partner has to approve it. These layers of friction are designed to protect you during moments of weakness.
What happens to my data if I delete the app?
All your on-device data (streaks, identity declarations, reflections, settings) is permanently deleted when you uninstall. There is no cloud backup. If you had an accountability partner set up, you can unregister from within the app first to also remove your data from our server.
Does my accountability partner see what I browse?
Never. Your accountability partner only receives notifications about your protection status — whether the filter is on or off, and whether your device has been offline for an extended period. They never see URLs, browsing history, or any content.
Does Paladin drain my battery?
No. Because Paladin uses Apple's native content filtering (not a VPN tunnel), the battery impact is negligible. Domain lookups are checked against a locally stored blocklist, which is extremely fast and efficient.
What if I relapse and reset my streak?
Paladin is designed for this. Your total days invested are preserved across all streaks. If you've earned Streak Shields through daily engagement, one will automatically activate to protect your streak for 24 hours. And if you return within 48 hours, you start at 50% of your previous rank progress — not zero.
Is Paladin free?
Paladin has a free tier that includes content blocking across all apps, a default blocklist, and streak tracking. The Pro tier ($7.99/mo) adds bypass prevention, accountability partners, urge response tools, and more. See our pricing section for full details.
What iOS version do I need?
Paladin requires iOS 17 or later.
How do I cancel my subscription?
You can manage or cancel your subscription anytime through your iPhone's Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions → Paladin. Apple handles all billing directly.
